David “Dox” Kennedy

Audio Engineer/Producer

David Kennedy, also known as Dawit Kennedy, is a renowned audio engineer and music producer with a career spanning several decades. Born in New York City and raised in Jamaica, Kennedy’s multicultural upbringing deeply influenced his musical sensibilities. He began his career at Byron Lee’s Dynamic Sounds in Kingston after graduating from NYC’s Institute for Audio Research.

Kennedy’s engineering prowess has been sought after by a diverse array of artists across genres. He has contributed to projects for legendary acts such as Keith Richards, Brand Nubian, Shinehead, and Mos Def. Notably, he played a significant role in mixing A Tribe Called Quest’s final album, We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service, alongside Blair Wells and Q-Tip. His work on this album was highlighted in a 2017 interview with LargeUp, where he discussed the album’s timely themes and his approach to mixing.

Beyond his engineering work, Kennedy has also ventured into production, crafting tracks that resonate with authenticity and depth. His commitment to the craft led him to establish his own recording facility, Cedar Hill, in Jamaica, aiming to nurture and produce talent in a region rich with musical heritage.

Kennedy’s journey in music is marked by serendipitous encounters and a relentless passion for sound. A chance meeting with Bob Marley in Miami served as a pivotal moment, inspiring him to pursue a path in audio engineering. His unique blend of technical expertise and cultural insight continues to leave an indelible mark on the music industry.
